I have been neglecting my blog for awhile, but I had to post about Logan going back to school before I forgot all about it!
I always post WAY too many photos, so here are just a few favorites so you don't have to read my marathon post if you don't want to....assuming anyone ever reads this anyway...
I can't believe that my little boy is now big enough to go off to school ALL day long! I am really struggling with that! I miss him all day! It is nice to have some time with my girls and give them a little more attention, but it is SO long to not have him around. It was hard to send him off to Kindergarten, but in some ways, I think 1st grade is harder. Kindergarten is only a few hours, and I still had my little boy for most of the day, but now I feel like he is gone and around others more than he is around me, and I don't like that! I am so glad that he is a great class and I don't have to worry... too much! I just miss him!
The night before school started (Aug 24), Logan and I went to Back To School night. He was so funny there! Every time he saw a friend from his old class, he would get so excited and wave and hope they were in his class again. He is such a friendly little boy! I think in some ways, he was so glad for school to get started. He really missed his friends! He gave his little friend, Jake, a BIG hug and was SO happy that they were in the same class. We got to meet Logan's teacher and find his desk and see who was in his class and all of that stuff. Logan is VERY excited about this year - He feels like he has the BEST teacher and has a class with a lot of his good friends, so he is much more comfortable starting school than last year. I just hope he actually listens with all those friends in there!!! After Back to School night, Logan got to play a little Lego Star Wars with Uncle Jeff, who was here visiting, and then had a blessing from Daddy. Some of the things that I remember about the blessing was that Logan would be a good friend, especially to those who need a friend. That he would continue to learn and love learning and be excited about school. That he would respect his teacher and learn from her. That he would be a good example at school and for his sisters. We are so lucky to have such a great daddy who can do that for us! Afterward, Avery hopped right up on the chair, so she had a turn, too.
Logan's stuff all laid out and ready for the morning
First Day of School (Aug 25) - So...the first morning of school was a little rough. Logan came into our room around 3:30 am and was having a tough time sleeping. He said he had a nightmare because of some Halloween decorations we saw at Lowe's (We can't go to the store during Halloween season - Logan HATES that stuff!!!) and I know he was SO excited! He wouldn't go back to his own bed, so we let him sleep on the floor, but he was SO restless. I don't know if he really got much sleep after that. He was awake again at 6:30 and READY to go!!! I tried and tried to get him to get a little more sleep...mostly for me!...but he was WAY too excited! We have never had morning school before, and I think it might be a hard adjustment for all of us! The Star Wars lunch box was a special first day of school surprise. Can you tell he likes it? He carried it around ALL morning everywhere he went, even though he didn't take his lunch.
His favorite part of the lunch box was the sandwich cutters. He can't wait to have a Millenium Falcon PB&J or a Tai fighter Turkey sandwich!!! Sadly, he still hasn't used the lunch box yet. He LOVES school lunch way too much. We were going over the calendar and he was saying "Delicious" and "Yum!" about everything I read off.
We had Logan's favorite breakfast (chocolate chip pancakes) and some eggs and bacon since it was such a special day and then we started getting ready for school. Logan did great on day one and he was ready before 8:00, and he didn't even need to leave for another half hour. (I guess getting up at 6:30 has some perks...) He even got to watch a little bit of TV before school, which will probably never happen again. Then, the torturous part.... Mom made him take about a MILLION first day of school pictures!
Logan picked out his outfit the night before. He liked this shirt because it had blue in it - his favorite color. (When I say he picked it out, I mean I let him choose from 2 or 3 things that I thought would be acceptable for the 1st day of school pictures. I didn't let him pick it out at the store.... I am WAY too much of a control freak for that! If it was up to him, I'm sure he would wear his Lego Star Wars shirt and gym shorts to school every day.) Is he not the cutest first grader you have ever seen or what? Poor kid had some really bad allergies! He always has a hard time with opening his eyes for pictures, but it was REALLY hard on this morning and they were so puffy and he couldn't stop rubbing them.
All 3 of my little monkeys - Rylee will start Preschool next week! Where does the time go? Don't mind the PJs and the CRAZY hair! Like I said.... we AREN'T morning people at our house!
Then, I drove Logan to school. Since Uncle Jeff was at our house, I could leave the girls there and run him to school for the first day. Which meant more pictures.... He was SO stressed he was going to be late and I was really bothering him!
In front of the school
One with Mom. He isn't too old for that.... yet!!! Just outside his classroom - I am driving him crazy by this point!
Logan was one of the VERY first ones at school. He was so stressed about being on time, but we were there with lots of time to spare. He even got to take a quick picture with his cute, new teacher. We are so excited to be in her class!
Logan at his desk. He is a little sad there is another Logan in his class this year and he has to be Logan W. I'm sure he wanted to say, "Mom! Please leave me alone now!" but he did smile for ONE last picture! I have to admit, I wanted him to be at least a LITTLE bit sad to see me leave. I wanted him to NEED me, just a little. But.... he didn't! I guess that is a good thing, but it was a little hard to walk out of that classroom. If it was acceptable, I think I would just sit in the back and watch him all day. Darren and I always say how fun it would be to watch what he does at school without him knowing. I just wonder how he is... and now it is ALL day long! And he says some funny stuff and I am missing it!!! I would love to sit in on one of their lunch room conversations...
Logan after his first day. He rode the bus home. He is so funny about that. He always wants me to pick him up in the car because he thinks it is SOOOO far to walk! It is only on the next block and right up the street.
Every first day of school deserves an Ice Cream cone! So, we went to Aggie Ice Cream for a treat! The plan was to talk about his day, but Logan doesn't give too much information.
We love Aggie Ice Cream! And Uncle Jeff was going to head home, but he decided he had to stick around and hear about Logan's first day. What a good Uncle!
For dinner, we had Logan's FAVORITE dinner to celebrate - Catalina Chicken. And for dessert, I made these APPLE rice Krispie treats. I know... they look a little more like pumpkins... but they are SUPPOSED to be Apples!
Logan showing off his Back to School Dessert!
Logan is so funny about school. You have to ask him about a MILLION questions to get much information out of him. Here are a few things I found out about his first day.
One of his very favorite things was eating lunch, although he couldn't remember who he sat by. They had Hot Dogs and he was SO happy about that!
All he could talk about about going to first grade was having THREE recesses! He thought that was so neat! I think he was looking forward to all those recesses more than any other part of school. Of course, he couldn't remember who he played with or what he played, but he loved having that many recesses.... even if he did have to stay ALL day, which he also liked to complain about.
His teacher had a special treasure hunt that went through a lot of the places in the school. At the end, they got a treat. He loved that! It was his favorite part of the day!
He got to meet Miss Munch.... I don't really know much else about her. I think it might be a puppet.... but Logan thinks she is really funny.
He told me that his teacher is not strict at all! Then, he said, "Well, she is strict about talking!" Hopefully, he won't get into trouble!
He got to see his teacher from last year and he remembered we never had her over for dinner this summer, like he wanted, so I guess we will be planning something soon!
He told me his favorite thing about 1st grade is PE. I pointed out he hadn't even gone there yet and he said, "Yeah. I'm just guessing it will be my favorite. I'm a pretty good guesser."
Logan is such a smart and special little boy. I stress so much about him getting every thing he needs at school and that he will be able to continue to grow and learn and enjoy it and not be bored. I had a lot of stress over his placement and I just hope that this will be what he needs to stay challenged and that he will continue to love school and 1st grade! I just want him to stay my sweet, little boy forever! Here's to our new ALL DAY adventure!
Here are a couple recent Logan conversations, just for fun...
The other day, Logan BIT Avery! He is NOT like that at all! I had no idea why he would do it - He didn't do it hard, but he definately bit her. Darren asked him why he would do that and he said, "Well, I'm not responsible for my sins for TWO more years!!!"
Today, Logan went to one of his best friend's little birthday parties. His mom told me some of the funny conversations the boys had during the party.... His friend is turning seven and Logan told him "You are they year to find girlfriends!" What??? Then he came home and told us how they all told each other their "girlfriends" or crushes. And he said he was going to write a note to his friend's crush to tell her! THIS IS FIRST GRADE!!! I thought I had much longer than this for note writing and crushes! Especially with boys!

Beach Geezers...I Mean Boys!
June 30 - Every summer, there is a car show near our home and as part of it, they do a concert. It is always an oldies band. The first year we moved here, it was 3 Dog Night and last year it was America. This year, it was the BEACH BOYS! I was so excited! However, as it got closer, it looked like we probably wouldn't be able to go. Logan had tball and we had some other things going on. We bought my dad some tickets for his birthday because he is one of the biggest Beach Boy fans of all time, and Darren's parents bought tickets, too. They ended up with an extra pair, so at the last minute, we went to the concert and it was SO GREAT! We had to go a little late and I was so bummed when we were trying to get in that they were singing "Surfing Safari" and we missed it! The Beach Boys have SO many good songs and I have so many good memories of the Beach Boys growing up. The only thing I really remember listening to when I was little is the Beach Boys and Elvis! And...for being so OLD (the 2 original Beach Boy members that still tour are 69 and 70 years old!!!) they were great! We had so much fun!!!
Darren and IThe parents - We all went together and had lots of fun! There was some Beach Boys mega fan that was sitting close to us. She was about 18 and dancing the entire time and SO excited about the show. Darren's dad went down and danced with her and I think it freaked her out! After the concert, she asked for a picture with him and the people in front of us were asking each other who he was because I think they thought he must be famous. It was pretty funny!
The Beach Boys
My favorite part of the whole concert was watching my dad! He was SO happy and having so much fun. I tried to get a good picture of him, but this was the best I did. I loved seeing him so excited about something! It was a great night!!!

At the Pool...
June 20 - June 30 - We spent most of our days the end of June at the pool doing swimming lessons. Logan and Rylee had lessons Mon-Thur from 11:00 - 11:40 for the last 2 weeks of June. One of the perks at doing lessons where we do is that we can stay after and swim in the outdoor pool afterwards, so we spent lots of time hanging out at the pool. The kids loved the kiddie pool and Logan wanted to spend every spare second in the hot tub. We were also lucky to have lots of friends take lessons in the same session so we almost always had lots of friends to play with. It was a lot of fun, but by the end, I think we were ready for a break from the pool! Rylee waiting for her teacher on her very first day. This was Rylee's second year doing lessons and she did a great job. She got really good with putting her face in the water and could even swim a little on her own and was really close to doing a back float on her own, too. She loved it and wasn't afraid of the water at all and had a great teacher!
Logan waiting for his teacher. I think this was year #4 for Logan. Logan's teacher the first week was great and Logan was making tons of progress. He swims pretty well on his own, but needs some help with his kicking and a few things. He was getting better...until week 2 when he got a new teacher. He didn't help Logan at all or show him what he was doing wrong. It was pretty frustrating to watch! Logan still had lots of fun and has a little more confidence in the water now.
Logan was lucky enough to be in a class with his buddy, Carter!
For the first 2 days, I had 2 little spectators to watch the swimming with since we were babysitting my nephew, Ethan. They did pretty good as long as I kept the snacks coming. On the first day, Darren was there to help me. On Day 2, it was a little harder. I think everyone there thought I had twins, but then on Day 3 I showed up with just Avery and I think they were a little confused! Rylee on day 1 - For some reason, all the kids liked climbing on this. Rylee with her class. She made lots of cute new friends.
Rylee's favorite part every day was jumping into the pool at the end!
Logan on Day 1 - He swims really well with his face in the water, but he kicks his legs up in a ball like this so he doesn't get very far very fast. It is a little bit funny to watch!
Doing a backfloat
Staying after to enjoy some swimming! It was pretty hard to keep these 2 out of the pool until the end of lessons! They were excited to swim!
Poor Ethan jumped right into the kiddie pool and I think he misjudged how deep it was. He went underwater and after that, he wanted no more swimming! He would splash on the side, but he was NOT getting back in!
June 27 - On Logan's birthday, we got some pizza for a special birthday lunch after lessons and got to swim with Daddy.
Avery enjoying her pizzaRylee
Swimming with Daddy!!! They love doing this!
Avery wasn't very sure about the water most days, but by the end of lessons, she was a maniac and jumping and trying to swim on her own! A little scary!
The birthday boy!
Rylee about to jump in. She got a lot more brave during lessons!
Daddy and his girls
Avery catching some sunLogan taking the plunge! The best part of lessons was taking home tired kids every day! We got great naps in during lessons... well... at least Avery did and the other kids had quiet time and were exhausted!
June 30 - Last day of lessons!!!
I think his muscles grew during those 2 weeks. What do you think?
Cute Rylee!Every day, they would line up on this fence under their teachers name and wait for their teacher to come and take them to the pool. How cute are these friends?
Rylee and her little class
My swim watching buddy! She got a little crazy at times, but overall Avery handled the HOURS of watching swimming pretty well! And we went through TONS of snacks!!!
Last day pictures of Ry - There are no pictures of the days in between because they would only let us sit by the pool for the 1st and last day. The other days we had to sit way up in the top and I couldn't get any pictures. This is her class playing red light, green light by kicking their feet. Rylee loved this!
I love how excited Rylee is to do her superman float!
Rylee swimming with her teacher - I love how her little eyes are just poking out of the water. Rylee and some other little girl who jumped into the picture... She loves to kick and splash! Rylee's backfloat
Logan on his last day of lessons
Swimming underwater - His kicks were getting better and he was doing his arms really well until he got the new teacher...
Buddies! Sometimes this was bad, because they didn't always listen. But, they had so much fun together!
Working on their kicks
Backstroke
Logan raising his hand for a turn to jump into the pool
At the end of lessons, they always had a cheer every day. Rylee loved that part! She was always the first one up there!
Rylee and her cute teacher, Kaitlyn. She was really cute with the kids!
After our LAST day of hanging out at the pool. I wish I could have gotten better pictures of the kids with their friends, but they had a blast every day swimming and I would always have to drag them out of the pool!
Yeah for summer time and swimming!!!
