In their big brother and sister shirts!
Avery got to be the VERY first one to hold her new brother. She looked so proud holding him and was a little pro already. I hope that this change isn't too hard for her. I know she is excited about the baby, but it is hard to give up that spot! She was so sweet with him and her smile was so cute! She has probably been the most excited about the baby "coming out". She was getting a little nervous before his arrival though. A couple days before I asked her if she was excited about the baby being born and she said NO! I was shocked because she had been so excited and I asked her why. She said, "I want you to hold ME! I want you to carry ME!" I felt so worried for her. She seems to have adjusted pretty well. Who wouldn't be happy about this sweet little guy though? The thing I remember most about Avery and her visits to the hospital (or Hos-table as Avery and Rylee say it...) is how concerned she looked about me. She looked at my IVs or my bandaids and looked so scared. Especially the first day when I could barely sit up. When I had to start walking, I would go on little walks with her and she would hold my finger so tenderly and look up at me so nervous. She looked terrified sometimes. I felt so bad that she was so worried and tried to reassure her that mommy was OK. I think she was very relieved when I came home, but she still asks to see my "owie" and wants to know when it is going to be all better and if I died at the hospital.
Miss Rylee got to hold Bronson next. She is a regular baby pro! At least she thinks she is. She was a little too confident in her baby holding abilities and was shifting him all around and made me a little nervous. She was so funny about him. Everything was "Ohhh...how cute!" or "He's so freakin' cute!" and she thinks everything he does is the "FIRST time". If he blinked his eyes, she would be "Oh my gosh! He just blinked his eyes for the first time!" Or every little sound is his first sound or word. She's such a little mommy! Rylee is very considerate and insisted on bringing Bronson a present and wanted to bring one every time she visited. She also took Daddy down to the gift shop to get me flowers because she needed to make sure I had some and wanted to bring new ones every day. She also brought her little mini karaoke machine and sang to Bronson "Rock-a-bye Rellaby in the tree top" (Not sure where she got the words to that...) She is also convinced that Bronson has to have dark brown eyes just like her. I think she might be right about that one!
Yeah! Sweet Logan finally has a brother! He might just be the most proud big brother ever! He couldn't wait to go back to school and show a picture to his class. He talks to Bronson in the sweetest little voice and he is so gentle and soft with him. He has told us he couldn't wait to snuggle the baby, and that is exactly what he did - snuggled his head right up against Bronson's. He couldn't wait for Bronson to come home and he told me several times in the hospital, "Mom, Bronson is going to LOVE his new home!" He was also very concerned about Bronson if he saw his little bandaids and wanted to know if he had shots and was very worried for him. My favorite thing about Logan at the hospital though was when he noticed the little sign in Bronson's bassinet that said, "Cutest Baby in the Nursery" and was so excited that Bronson had won "an award"! He asked me if it was a real award, and I asked him what he thought and he said, "Yeah, I'm sure he is the cutest one." He is also convinced that Bronson is his "twin" because he says everything about him and Bronson are just the same. For instance, Bronson had some troubles getting started eating and had to be on bili lights when he came home, and Logan was a NICU baby, so he says he and Bronson both had "problems" when they were born. And he had Bronson grab his finger and then said that was just like him when he was a baby. And Bronson did suck his thumb once and Logan was so excited! I'm sure that Bronson will love being just like his big brother and they will be the best of buddies!
While they were there, they came in to do Bronson's first bath. The kids loved watching! Especially my girls! They wanted to be right there and watch the whole thing. And Logan had lots of questions and things to tell the nurse. Poor Bronson wasn't too excited about his bath and cried the whole time. Until they washed his hair! He LOVED that part!
I feel so lucky to have these special little spirits in our family and so blessed to be their mom. I also am so happy that they have each other. The older I get, the closer I feel I am to my siblings and the more grateful I am for them. I hope these kids will have great relationships and always be close friends.
