Pumpkins, Pixies and Peter Pan!

I already posted some Halloween photos, but I wanted to also include a post about all of our fun Halloween activities! He had a full week of fun things to do! I love holidays and traditions and doing fun things together as a family and my kids do, too. Logan is already counting down the days until we have another holiday! He is really excited for Thanksgiving and of course, Christmas!
These next two pictures were supposed to be further down in the post, but I accidently deleted them when I was editing. And it was WAY too big of a pain to drag them all the way down there (is there an easier way to do that???). I was just going to leave them out, but they are a couple of my favorites. Here are Logan and Rylee at Grandma's house the day before Halloween.
Cheesy Tinkerbell
Handsome Peter Pan

About a week and a half before Halloween, we went to pick out our pumpkins. We just jumped in the car and went to find something and saw a little roadside pumpkin stand and stopped there. I thought this sign was hilarious! Only where we live could people do this - Not only could people drive off with their pumpkins, they had a big cash box just sitting on the side of the road that just anybody could have swiped. I love small towns!
I wish I would have taken a picture of how you measured the pumpkins. They had another piece of poster board with some funny pumpkin shapes drawn on to hold your pumpkin up to to determine the cost. I am pretty sure a 6 year old drew it and none of the pumpkins really had a shape like that at all. It was so funny!
Here is Rylee picking out her pumpkin. She looks a little homeless! She is pretty insistent on choosing all her own clothes lately and hates for me to do her hair. It is one of those pick your battles things and I usually only fight her on it if we are going somewhere. I thought the kids were going to just be in the car so I didn't worry about it, but once we got there, they had to get out and choose their own pumpkins. She is still cute....just a bit of a hot mess!
Logan was REALLY excited about choosing his pumpkin and a tiny one for Avery! I think he had to have the smallest one, but it was too small to carve so we ended up with a little bigger one. He picked his because the "handle" was cool and curved.
Logan and Rylee in the pumpkin patch.

The Friday before Halloween weekend, (Oct 23rd), Darren didn't have any patients scheduled, so we decided to have a full day of Halloween fun. We started off with some morning pumpkin carving. We started right after breakfast, so that is why the PJs. I decided it didn't make sense to get dressed and get covered in pumpkin guts!
Logan was hilarious cleaning out his pumpkin! He didn't want to touch it at all! He would only scoop it out with an ice cream scoop. He was not into getting all dirty and slimy!

He did give it a try a few times, but he would pull out about 3 seeds at a time. So funny!
Trying to fit his lid on the pumpkin
Rylee, on the other hand, dug right in and liked all the slime and everything. She was pretty into it! She also kept taking big bites out of the pumpkin and the lid (if you look closely, you can see the chunks she ate!) She is a crazy girl!
She thought Avery's pumpkin should go inside hers....
Rylee helping Daddy carve her pumpkin - she was SO excited about her Snow White one! Daddy wasn't too happy about Mom finding that pattern! It was a lot of work for him, but Rylee loved it!
I thought Rylee and her Daddy were so cute - She has her arm wrapped tightly around his neck while he carves her pumpkin.

Logan and his finished product - He loved his spider! (Notice we did get dressed that day!) He was really proud of his pumpkin!

Rylee refused to pose with her pupkin, but it turned out great!

Later that afternoon, we headed to the little Pumpkin Walk by our house. It is really cute - People do all kinds of little scenes with pumpkins and other veggies. Most of the scenes this year were from different commercials. The kids had a good time running around.
Our little wild thing! Logan refused to participate....

We thought this Michael Jackson pumpkin was pretty cool. Logan was too busy dancing to be in the photo. He loves Michael!
This was our favorite booth - it was so cute! I especially liked the corn. Some people are so crafty and creative!
Sweet Avery just slept in her stroller the whole time we were there and was a perfect little angel! We had her all bundled up and she didn't seem to mind being out at all.
After all the pumpkins, there was a bunch of these cut out things to take your picture in. Rylee was in heaven - She really liked being all the Princesses! Here is Snow White.
Logan thought it would be so funny to be Cinderella
Cute Little Mermaid Rylee!

Logan loves the genie! He put his head in here and said "Ten Thousand years can give you SUCH a crick in the NECK! Oy!"
Rylee makes a much better Cinderella!
Logan wasn't really into doing these too much, but he was VERY excited to be Harry Potter! I thought it looked so funny with the glasses!
Logan and Rylee with their best scared faces!
The kids were far more interested in playing at the park and using these little backhoes to shovel in the sand. They were having a great time!
Rylee working on digging with Daddy. There was quite a line of kids and most were crying for a turn so we didn't get to play too long.

That night was our Ward Halloween Carnival at church. Logan had been talking about going for weeks, so he was VERY excited! It was his first chance to wear his costume!!!
Our cute Peter Pan! He was SO excited for everyone to see him A few people called him Robin Hood and that really annoyed him!
Our dynamic duo ready for the party
Logan with his buddies Dallin and Spencer at the party. They were both characters from Narnia and Spencer was Peter, which Logan thought was great because they were BOTH Peters!

Rylee got her face painted and loved it! The carnival was lots of fun. There were lots of activities for the kids. Logan loved the putting game. The most exciting part was winning some free bowling passes! Avery was great and slept in her stroller the whole time, all covered and protected from germs!
Carving pumpkins with small children is not really the greatest idea. Maybe we will be painting them next year. It took Darren and I several days to get a chance to carve ours after doing Logan and Rylee's with them. This time we learned to wait until they were already asleep! Darren was pretty proud of his creation - He tried a new carving method and it turned out really neat.
Here is me with my ghost. I picked the easiest pattern I could find!
All of our pumpkins all lined up - Avery's is the little one and it has an A, which Darren said was for Avery, but I think it was really an Aggie A!
Pumpkins all lit up. I don't know why this picture won't turn the right way.... The Thursday before Halloween (Oct 29th) was Logan's Halloween party at school. It was also Logan's day for the treat and show and tell. We made these mummy cupcakes for his treat. They were super easy and I thought they looked pretty cute. Logan has a mummy book he loves, so it was perfect. For show and tell, he was supposed to take something he likes about fall, so he took his football since he loves going to the football games with his dad. He also got to wear his costume to school which he was SO excited about!I went to pick up Logan a little early to get some pictures, but they were already pretty much done for the day and just having their snack. Here he is with a few classmates. For their party, they went to one of the kids' homes to see his pigs (they are learning about the letter P) and to pick pumpkins. They opened a pumpkin to see the insides and Logan informed his teacher that he didn't need a turn to pull out the seeds and guts because he already cleaned one at home and didn't want to do it again. They also played pin the nose on the witch and some some fun treats.

That night (Thur), we decided to make some fun Halloween treats and dipped some marshmallows in candy coating and rolled them in sprinkles. The kids had a great time. Here they are EXCITED to get started!
Logan rolling his marshmallow in the sprinkles. I LOVE the expression on Rylee's face - It is one she makes a lot.
Logan sampling his work - they really liked these and thought they were like a special Halloween S'more.
Darren making some mallows. He is such a good sport to help me out with these projects and was a great helper and had to do a lot of it by himself while I took care of Avery. He is MUCH better in the kitchen than me usually.
Rylee showing off her mallow
Our finished work! This one wouldn't turn either, but you get the idea. We thought we would take some of these to our neighbors, but they didn't turn out quite as well as we hoped and the kids either licked or took bites out of most of the marshmallows or sprinkles, so we ended up just keeping them all. It was a fun family project and really easy to make!

The day before Halloween, we went down to my parent's house for a few Halloween activities. My mom does a HUGE chili party every year on Halloween, but we wanted to take the kids trick-or-treating around here and wanted to avoid swine flu germs with all the people, so we decided to go down a day early. I drove down with all 3 kids and Darren met me after work. It was my first excursion out with all 3 kids by myself, so it was a bit crazy! I think I started getting ready to leave at 8, and we didn't leave until almost 2 (about 2 hours behind schedule) but we made it and had lots of fun!
I stayed up the night before to add some last touches to Ry's costume - I made her some shoes and some fun Tinkerbell bows and was so excited how they turned out when she put her whole costume on. I bought her some old shoes at the DI and then hotglued pieces of a feather boa in a little ball shape so they would look like Tinkerbell's little poofs. Sometimes I can be crafty.
What a cute Tinkerbell! Can't you tell how excited she is?
All ready for the hour drive to Grandma's after a whole day of getting ready and packing! They were pretty excited! They love going to Grandma's!
My dad's office does trick-or-treating for the kids, so we went there for a little bit. My mom, little brother Kyle, sister Heather and her baby Ethan and a few kids she was babysitting came along with us. It is hard to tell who is more excited....my dad or the kids! This is my dad's grandpa grin - He has it whenver his grandkids are around! They trick-or-treated from desk to desk and if someone didn't have candy out, Logan would just grab other things on their desk! He was having a great time and it was hard to keep up with him! Rylee loved it too - especially since there were lots of suckers, which are her favorite. Avery was asleep when we got there, and then a little fussy, so we didn't bother with her costume.
It is so fun having a baby so close in age to my sister! Here are Ethan and Avery hanging out at Grandma's. Ethan is almsot 9 weeks in this picture and Avery is 5 weeks. I think she is almost as big as he is now though! Logan and Rylee went with Darren and Grandpa and Uncle Kyle to the elementary school carnival. Darren says never again! It was really crowded, I guess and had really long lines. The kids had fun...Dad and Grandpa...not so much.
We stuck around for a bit because Kyle was having a much anticipated Halloween party that he couldn't stop talking about, complete with black lights and streamers. He also asked the girl he likes to come and was hoping to ask her to dance and we were all wanting to see the outcome. He was coached by Jeff to ask her "Would you like..." and then pause to see her reaction. If she didn't look interested, he was supposed to say "Would you like a glass of punch", but if she did look interested, then he could say "Would you like to dance?" Isnt' that hilarious! Unfortunately, she didn't come. :( Jeff is a cute brother to Kyle and besides the woman advice, also provided the entertainment portion of the party. He was Michael Jackson and did some pretty sweet dancing.I think he has spent a lot of time watching music videos AND himself in the mirror to perfect his moves. I'm glad we stuck around - it was some good entertainment!
While Jeff was doing his sweet dance moves and performing as Michael (he even had a costume change...) Logan was doing some SWEET dancing of his own. It was hilarious! I love this picture of Kyle - He was a bit of a mess during the party because he wanted everything to be just PERFECT!!!
Logan busting a move! He loves Michael ever since we went to Bear Lake with my brothers this summer and knows all the songs and plenty of good moves - Thriller is his favorite! Jeff also did "The Jerk" - Logan's other favorite - so he was in heaven!

I also tortured my kids with some photos while we were at Grandma's. Since we don't have any grass yet, we didn't have a good spot for photos, so I took some while we were there. They weren't too trhilled, but I got a few Ok ones. I love this pose of Logan's!
Peter Pan and his sidekick, Tinkerbell

On Halloween, we went downtown to trick-or-treat. I didn't get great pics at my mom's and since I had Darren's help, I tortured the kids with a few more photos in the leaves. Here are a couple with all 3! It was hard work to make this happen!!!

I love these cuties!!!
My Peter Pan! Logan was hard to get good pictures of because he loved running through the leaves! He thinks he is so cool with his Peter Pan sword!

This one is a little fuzzy, but I love his facial expression.
Some favorites of our sassy Tinkerbell - She even looks cute from behind!

Daddy held her up so she could look like she was flying just like Tinkerbell. She LOVED it!

Oh I Love this girl!

And here is Avery - our little monkey! Isn't she the sweetest monkey you have ever seen? Logan wore this costume for his first Halloween, too.
She was just waking up from a nap, so I had to hurry and take a few pictures before she got too grumpy!
I was happy to get one good picture without a binky in
Trick-or-Treating downtown was a lot of fun. We went from business to business in the cute shops on Main Street. A lot of places were out of candy because we went in the afternoon, but it was still fun and the kids loved it! Rylee was asleep when we first got there, so Darren stayed in the car with her for a bit while Logan and I started. The best treat was an ice cream cone from one of the restaurants! Yumm!!! It wasn't a great idea though....I quickly learned Logan can't really walk AND eat ice cream and he dripped it all over his costume! It was all down his arm, along his costume and even all down his leg! He was a sticky mess but he sure liked that ice cream!
The kids downtown - they really were having fun. Logan just looks like this because I am making him take ANOTHER picture!
Cute trick or treaters! While we were downtown, we saw another family dressed as Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Wendy and the croc from Peter Pan. Logan wanted Darren to be Captain Hook SO bad, but it was a REALLY expensive costume and I wasn't crafty enough to make one. We felt kind of bad we didn't dress up, especially after seeing that family and Logan going crazy over the Captain Hook. I guess we learned a lesson for next year...
Once we got through downtown, we made a quick stop at the store and then went to trick-or-treat at Darren's business partners house. Rylee had been in the office earlier in the week and his wife told her she needed to trick-or-treat at their house and after that, she kept telling us we needed to go to "dad's office lady's house". After that, we went home. It was still light out, so we decided to hurry and do our street before it got cold and then we wouldn't have to add layers to the kids' costumes. Our street is pretty small, so it didn't take long, but the kids were totally happy with just doing the houses we did and had lots of fun!
Our little trick-or-treaters out for candy, candy, candy!!!
By the end of the night, they were total pros at going up to the door by themselves. They even remembered to say Thank You most of the time.

We even put Avery in her costume and she went along for the ride in her stroller. She slept the whole time and was great! We were glad it was pretty warm so she could come along with us.

After trick-or-treating, we went home and had a yummy bowl of chili. Since we didn't go to her party, my mom sent us home with some so we could enjoy it on Halloween. Logan also loved handing out candy to all the trick-or-treaters and we watched some of the Halloween specials that my kids love! (We watched a LOT of Little Einstein Halloween, some Backyardigans Halloween specials and the Monsters Vs Ailiens special before (and after) Halloween. Their favorite though was the Charlie Brown special and Rylee now likes to say "You Blockhead!" all the time!) We had a fun Halloween! It makes me so excited for the holiday sesason (and Black Friday shopping)!!!
