Lately, Avery really likes to pretend that she is the mommy. She tells me all the time, "you a baby. I the mommy". Then she usually proceeds to take away my phone, because it is obviously for mommies and not for babies!
Today I was going to the bathroom and she came in and started telling me to shut the door and "Stay there! Don't move!" I think she was trying to Avoid nap time. I told her that she was being really bossy. Her response was, "I not bossy. I a mommy".

Our Little Graduate!
May 12 - Our cute Rylee had her BIG Joy school graduation in May. I have been looking through my posts and realized I never really did much journaling of her joy school experience, so I am going to do one big post of the whole year one of these days. Anyway, she had a great time doing Joy School. It was the perfect answer to my dilemma of whether to do 2 years of preschool for Rylee. It was free and only one day a week and Rylee loved it! It was great for me, too. It gave me a chance to be involved with Rylee and her friends, and also gave Rylee and I an occasional break from each other. I loved doing it!
Rylee was SO excited for the Graduation. The kids practiced their songs a few weeks before and were so excited for their cute little program.

Just for fun, here is a flash back to her FIRST day of Joy School, which was in September.

Rylee's cute little class. Before the program, we had one last short class and practiced the program a little bit. This is right before we sang the song we sing to start class. It goes "Rylee (or whoever's name...) will you stand up and let us see you smile? We're glad you're here today. Won't you stay awhile?" The kids love it! They always point to their smiles when they sing. It makes me laugh!

Rylee loved her cute friend, Arita. They were the only girls and they got along so good together and had fun this year.
CHEESE!
They sang 2 songs for their program. One was called, "Oh, Boy! I've got Joy!" and the other was a cute School Spirit song! The words were something about "our school is the best!" and the kids got really into it and loved using their pom poms!
After the songs, we watched a cute photo slide show that one of the moms made. It was so fun to look back on the year and all the memories. I got a little teary!
Then, the graduates each got a turn to come up and the moms said some nice things about them and they got their little diplomas and a report card.

Afterwards, we had some special treats. One of the other moms made these adorable graduation cap cupcakes. They loved them!
Enjoying the treats - Unfortunately, we couldn't work out a time that ALL the dads could be there. Since we didn't want any one to feel bad that their dad was gone, we did the program with just moms and the siblings not in school. All of us have a kindergartener who goes in the afternoon, so it works out pretty good for them to all play together. There were also a few babies running around. It was a little crazy, but it was a good time!

He even told the car pool that day that he wasn't having a good day and he told me on several occasions that he felt left out and was pretty upset. He loved when we had Joy School here and always wanted to "help", although sometimes he wanted to take over. Once the graduation was going, he really wanted to do all the things the other kids were doing and it was hard for him to realize that this program was just for Ry and he needed to support her. I tried to explain, but I guess it is hard at that age! He hates when the attention isn't on him!

Daddy came home shortly after the graduation finished up. Rylee couldn't wait to tell him all about it and show him the DVD.

Since Daddy missed the graduation, we took Rylee for a special lunch. With just her and Mom and Dad! That rarely happens at our house and Rylee was so excited about it! She picked Winger's. I think mostly because she likes the popcorn they bring out. She even got a special dessert! She loved having us all to herself and talked nonstop. It was so cute! We love our sassy little Princess. Way to go Rylee! She is VERY excited for REAL Preschool. I kept telling her it was after Joy School, so she was ready to go there the day after her graduation. She can't wait!

Mom's Getaway
April 28-29 - In April, I did something I have never done before. I left the kids at home with Darren and went on a little girls' getaway with some of my dear friends from my ward. I was so excited! We went down to BYU Women's Conference and had a great time. It took me back to my EFY days - It was like EFY on steroids with grown women fighting to get into classes and saving seats like crazy people. It cracked me up that the speakers would ask repeatedly to please not leave early from the classes to get to the next one, and that half the audience would be dashing from their seats as soon as the closing song began. We had a great time - We ate some delicious food (including a BYU mint brownie!), were spiritually uplifted and had tons of fun and lots of laughing! I truly bonded with all these girls and love them all! They are great examples in my life and so much fun to be around! I came home feeling recharged and with a greater resolve to do more and be a better mom, which is what it is all about, right? It was something I truly needed. I felt the Spirit so strong down there and learned so much. Now that I teach Primary, I truly miss having great adult lessons and learning in Relief Society, so this was perfect for me! I am so grateful my husband worked things out so I could go and that I didn't have to worry about the kids at all. It was a great weekend!
The first night we ate at the Brick Oven. It was so yummy, but we all got sick afterwards! I think it was because we starved ourselves all day rushing to all the classes and then we stuffed ourselves at the Salad and Pasta Bar. After dinner, we went to the concert and all took turns dashing to the bathroom the whole time. The concert was great. Then we went to our hotel and did some girl talk and hit the sack. 8 girls in one room! It was a little crazy, but so fun!!!
Here we are at the closing session - Elder Bednar! He was FABULOUS! I love hearing him speak! He used the analogy of a drip irrigation system. He said we should be like that - focused and steady - rather than a sprinkler - sporadic. It was great. I also went to a class that day by Stephanie Nielson, who is the girl who was in the plane crash and burned so badly and has the Nie Nie blog that is so popular. It was her and her sisters and it was SO good! I think we were all in tears by the end.
All the ladies before we headed for home! Me, Barbi, Jill, Cheryl, Emily, Sylvia, Amelia and Marcie - We met a couple other friends there on Friday - Jenn and Stephanie, but they weren't with us when we took pictures.
And what would a girl trip be without a close-up picture that we took ourselves? My favorite kind of pic!
After we finished our classes that day, we headed to PF Chang's - my favorite! It was delish! We did a little shopping (but not nearly enough!) and headed for home. It was the perfect little break for me! Thanks girlies!!!

Nearly Perfect...
Today I had one of those days that made me remember why I LOVE being a mom so much! I will be honest...there are days that make it hard to remember that I do love it. Not many, but sometimes. Some days I want to run away. I have admittedly locked myself in my room for a little bit before. Not my proudest moment, but it has happened... Not a lot, but it has.
But, today was nearly perfect. So, just to help me remember how great it can be on those hard days, I wanted to jot it down. We didn't do anything super fun....Actually, we barely even left the house! Yet, it was a great day!
It didn't start out great though. Rylee threw a tantrum last night at bedtime. She has been having a hard time sleeping in her own bed. She insisted on sleeping in our room. I finally gave in, but not before she woke up Avery who had been asleep for about 20 minutes or so. Then, Avery would NOT go back to sleep! I tried everything! Letting her cry, holding her, laying by her in my bed....nothing worked! She finally crashed around 1 am and then she was up bright and early at 6:30 and she was GROUCHY! I tried to get her back to sleep, but she wasn't having it. So, I planned on a REALLY long day with a super grouchy baby! But, I was wrong....
I don't know why it was so special. It wasn't anything spectacular. Maybe it was just so happy that no one is pooping and the salmonella is gone from our house after almost 2 weeks. But it seemed like more than that. I always have this picture in my head of how our days should go. It includes lots of playing together and reading time and snack time and structure....It never really seems to turn out that way. But today...it did!
We started off the morning with some chores. I was able to get lots accomplished and the kids were very helpful. We tackled the toy room all together and it was great. They worked hard and enjoyed it, if that is possible. I love when we work together! Then, we played outside for a bit and played with our daddy. After lunch, we had reading time. We read one of Ry's books and a chapter of Harry Potter 2, which Logan is SO into! I love how excited he gets and that reading is so fun to him! Avery fell asleep on my lap while we were reading. That never happens anymore. After I put her in bed, Logan played one game of Lego Star Wars (which he turned off without complaining!) and me and Rylee built a few towers with Lincoln Logs (she thrives on one-on-one attention!) Then, Logan and Rylee played together....without fighting! They used their imaginations! It was the best! They played something with pirates and then some Harry Potter. I got some more cleaning done. Avery got a good nap. When Avery woke up, we had a snack. Then we played outside. We were outside for a good 2 hours or longer. Our time outside had all the things that make me love summer - Swinging, sliding, playing some soccer or "ball" as Avery calls it, a nice walk with a visit with a few friends, bike riding, side walk chalk, Follow the Leader, leapfrog, all varieties of Tag...or at least my children's version of Tag - They came up with something called "Party Tag" which they said is all the kinds of tag together....there is usually more than one person "it" so I don't know how that works - a little "Bubblegum, bubblegum" in a dish action, Logan wanted to play "track" which was racing around the house, laying in the grass, finding cloud animals (which Logan pointed out some clouds were actually "jet streams...") and we finished the day with Popsicles! All that was missing was swimming or sprinklers or maybe a little BBQ or a fire in the firepit. The kids took baths and my sister called. They took were taking turns talking to her and she is babysitting this week. The little boy talked to Avery and she thought it was the funniest thing ever. She kept saying "baby" and laughing so hard and then the other kids would laugh and soon we were all laughing. Harder than I have for a LONG time. It was awesome! Then the kids went to bed really well, after we played a little game of Quidditch in the toy room....
Like I said, nothing really special, but it just felt like magic to me! I think it finally felt like summer had arrived. And I remembered how much I missed my Log when he is at school. Next year will be tough when is gone all day! But, for now...I want more of these lazy summer days!
Don't get me wrong - We had a few major meltdowns, a few fights and I probably did yell in there a time or two. And...I fed them Mac N Cheese and Chicken Nuggets for dinner since Darren wasn't home, which probably isn't the greatest dinner to give your kids... It wasn't perfect...but nearly. I wish I had a picture to capture our perfect day. I didn't even get out my camera. I was too busy having fun. I don't think I could have captured it anyway. Hopefully, these words will do.
I don't know why more days don't go like this. Sometimes I am just not patient enough. Some days I am too preoccupied with my projects or am on the phone too much. Some days I don't "play" enough and enjoy them and am too worried about MY "to do" list. Some days I don't live in the moment enough. Some days I just want a break. I am working on these things and today made me remember why I want to fix them. The only thing that could have made my day better was a little more Daddy time, but then I don't know if I would have shared such special time with the kids. Sometimes they need a "fun" mom, not just the mom who makes them do chores and feeds them dinner.
As we sat down to dinner, I heard something that melted my heart. It made my whole day...and maybe even my year...or my life! Logan was talking to Rylee and he said, "We have the best mom in the whole world! Other kids say they have the best mom, but they don't know." It made me want to try harder. It made me want to live up to that. It made me happy. It made me cry! And feel a tiny bit guilty...but mostly inspired! I love my kids. They ARE perfect! At least for me.

Road Trip
March 18 - Ever since we finished Dental School, we have been talking to our friends, Jon and Annie, about getting together one weekend with them. They live in Boise, which isn't too far, but is definitely not just a quick trip. We have seen them a couple times as they passed through on their way to visit family and we have been able to meet up for dinner or something, but we haven't spent much time. And we really wanted to see their amazing house and their baby girl who is ONE who we have never even met! And, they have never met Avery. So, after almost THREE years we finally found a weekend that worked for all of us and made the trip! Here are the kids on the LONG and uneventful drive to Boise. It took about 5 hours. Thank goodness for naps, movies and the Leapster!
Avery has finally discovered watching Elmo which has helped a TON with making car trips. I am pretty sure she watched Elmo FIVE or SIX times on the drive, (and we only have ONE Elmo movie...) which means it played right behind my head that many times... My favorite thing is watching her little head bob back and forth when the music starts. "La, la, la, la...la,la,la,la....Elmo's World!" She gets the biggest grin and her head going from side to side is the cutest ever!
So...once we got there, there really aren't any pictures.... So sad! We didn't really do much. We just hung out and chatted and the kids played together great! They have 3 adorable girls and Rylee was especially in heaven. Logan also enjoyed going for a ride on Jon's 4 wheelers and I got to make a trip with Annie to Costco! Yeah!!! I wish we had one of those. Besides that and going out to eat, we mostly just hung out together and watched lots of March Madness Basketball. It was great! We miss them so much! You know how you have those friends who you can not talk to for months and it never really feels different? That is how it is with Jon and Annie! Even though it had been THREE years since we had really hung out, it just felt like old times and we never ran out of things to talk about and we laughed a lot! It was great!!! And Rylee has a new special friend in Shelby. They were so much alike and Rylee asks to see her all the time now.
Sunday morning, we went to their Sacrament meeting and then headed for home, but we did get a couple quick pictures before we left.

Here are the little buddies, Rylee and Shelby. I think they were dancing. They played the entire time together with no fights and got along so well! They spent a lot of the time coloring. It was too cute!
Shelby made Rylee an entire sack of cards for her birthday and insisted we take them all home with us! She also wrapped up a cute little card all by herself to give Rylee since her birthday was in a few days. What a cute little friend!

Disney on ICe
March 10 - For Christmas, Darren and I gave Logan and Rylee each a special Date night. Logan's was tickets to a Jazz game and Rylee's was tickets to Disney on Ice. They were so excited and had a hard time waiting for their big nights to come! Rylee had to wait longer than Logan and she couldn't wait for Disney on Ice! Some of our good friends also ended up going the same night, so we were able to drive down together and it was so much fun! We met them in Layton and made a quick dinner stop at In-N-Out!
Rylee LOVES In-N-Out! She can eat a whole burger there with NO problem! I love her!!!
Going to dinner took MUCH longer than we planned and we were a little frantic to get to the show on time. We seriously parked and RAN to the ESA in less than 5 minutes and sat down in our seats just as the lights went down for the show to start. Close call!
Rylee was SO excited!!!
Waving as all the Princesses came out for the ball. She was a little bothered that Rapunzel from Tangled wasn't there...
I loved watching all of her funny faces throughout the show. This was when they were doing the Princess Ball and Ariel came out. She was in heaven!!!
Me and Rylee at intermission. The show was celebrations and in the first act they did an Unbirthday party with the Alice in Wonderland characters, a Halloween part with all the Disney villains and a really cool part with the brooms from Fantasia. They also did a Valentine's Ball with all the Princesses and Rylee was LOVING that!!!
During Intermission, Rylee had to change into her dress since we were running late and didn't have time to do it before the show started. I tried to talk her out of it since the show was already half over, but she wanted to be in her Belle dress! 
She also got a Tinkerbell snow cone and it kept her busy for the rest of the night! It was HUGE and so hard for her to eat and made a giant mess. But, she loved it!
Waving at the end of the show! She had a great time! The second half had a real Hawaiian luau with Lilo and Stitch and even a fire dancer and a Christmas part with all the Toy Story characters.

Mommy and Rylee just before we went home. We had such a fun night! I love doing these one on one dates with the kids and seeing them on their own. It is so fun for them and for me! Rylee LOVED her night with the Disney Princesses and I loved MY Princess!
