Feb 26, 10 - We took Logan on his first ski trip and he did great! I was totally amazed how well he did. Maybe I should preface this by saying that my own first ski trip was a total disaster!!! I was always in basketball season growing up in the winter, and my coaches never wanted us to ski in case we got hurt. So, my first trip was when I was a Sr in high school. My dad took me, my brother and my 2 little sisters. We also took along a couple of neighbors to help us out since it was the first time for all us kids, and my dad hadn't been skiing for a long time either. We got up to Alta and the bunny hill was CLOSED so we had to take our first run on the regular slope....not so fun! I couldn't quite get the hang of it. My friend, Randy, would tell me to snowplow, but I would still pick up a lot of speed going downhill and had no control, so he told me if I was going too fast to fall down. So, I would fall a lot and take forever to get back up! Not a good way to learn. My sisters couldn't get it, and got tired of trying and sat on their skis to go down and cried most of the time. I think they were about 10 and 12. It took us 3 hours for one run! After that experience, I was dreading the worst when taking Logan, but he did awesome!
We had been wanting to try skiing for awhile, but hadn't gotten around to it and were a little weary about spending the money, only to have Logan hate it. The ski resort by us had $5 ski night and $10 rentals, plus $5 ski school so it seemed like the perfect time to give it a try. Darren and I are not super skiers, so the ski school idea gave us the confidence to try with Logan. Here is Logan all ready to try ski school. He loved it!
My little brother Kyle did ski school with Logan. He was so nice to help Logan out. It was his first ski trip, too. Aren't they cute in their matching coats? I do lots of shopping for my mom when I find good deals, so they have the same coat!
Smiling and happy!
We didn't know what to do with the girls, since Avery won't take a bottle. My mom was nice enough to come up and hang out in the lodge with them. It was so great of her! My sister and her hubby came skiing, too, so she also had their baby, so she was busy! My sister, Vanessa came to help her out. Thanks a bunch guys! My sisters had fun with Ry's hair and gave her this "Tree pony". She liked to shake her head with it and sing the tree pony song my sisters taught her. We decided she looks like Michelle from Full House - my favorite show from back in the day! She just needs a little "You got it dude!"
Rylee and Aunt Vanessa - She wanted to come out and play in the snow, too.
The resort was SO crowded! I guess everyone thought the $5 ski night was a good idea. Darren and I only got to take a couple runs down between checking on Logan, feeding the baby and waiting in the HUGE lift line. My first run was a flash back to my first time on skis! It was NOT like riding a bike - It took me awhile to get the hang of it and getting up when you fall is so hard, I hated it! My 2nd (and last) run was much better though and I didn't fall at all! Logan had so much fun on the little "Magic Carpet" hill. It was so perfect for him. They had a little conveyor belt that the kids could ride up on, kind of like the moving sidewalk at the airport, and it wasn't steep at all. I was amazed how well he did!
Here goes Logan.... After about an hour of ski school, he was exhausted, but he did a few more runs so mom and dad could watch. Then he was cold and wanted to go see Grandma in the lodge.
My sister Vanessa's boyfriend came along and he is a great skier so he was a great help with Logan and with Kyle! Especially since I could barely ski myself, much less help Logan. It was great fun! We were hoping to get one more trip in this year, but it didn't happen. Maybe next year we will have a regular ski bunny!
